How to Stop Sabotaging Your Manifestation Process (And What to Do Instead)
Welcome to Live Joy Coaching, where I help you live your best life with joy and purpose. I’m Crystal Trevors, a certified life coach and the founder of Live Joy Coaching. In this blog post, I’m going to reveal the #1 mistake that prevents you from manifesting your goals, and what you can do instead to achieve them faster and easier.
What is Manifesting?
You may have heard of the term manifesting before, but what does it really mean? And how can you do it effectively?
Manifesting is the process of making your dreams, aspirations, and desires a reality by believing you can achieve them and focusing your thoughts and energy in that direction. It is based on the power of positive thinking and the law of attraction, which states that what you focus on is what you will attract into your life.
For example, if you want to lose weight, you have to believe that you can do it and visualize yourself as fit and healthy. If you want to find a loving partner, you have to believe that you deserve love and imagine yourself in a happy relationship. If you want to make more money, you have to believe that you are worthy of abundance and picture yourself enjoying financial freedom.
Sounds simple, right? Well, not quite. Many people struggle with manifesting because they sabotage their own success by putting conditions on their intentions or goals. For example, they may say things like:
- I want to lose weight, but I don’t want to diet or exercise or pay for a gym membership.
- I want to find a loving partner, but I don’t want to do online dating or go out more.
- I want to make more money, but I don’t want to work harder or go back to school and learn new skills.
Do you see the problem here? These people are limiting themselves and their potential by putting restrictions on how they can achieve their goals. And when you add conditions, you are telling the universe that you are not ready or serious about it. You are blocking your own success and happiness.
Putting conditions on your goals is a big mistake that many people make when they try to manifest their dreams and desires. In my experience, if you really want to manifest something, you have to be willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. You have to be open to all the possibilities and opportunities that may come your way. You have to be flexible and adaptable and ready to overcome any obstacles or challenges that may arise.
You have to be willing to go over the fence, around the fence, or under the fence, as long as you get to the other side where your goal is waiting for you.
This doesn’t mean that you have to suffer or sacrifice everything for your goal. It just means that you have to be proactive, creative, and resourceful in finding ways to achieve your goal.
You have to take action and work toward your goal every day, even if it’s just a small step.
And I promise you if it is aligned with your purpose, you will be excited and motivated to achieve your goals. But what if you are not excited or motivated? What if you are feeling doubtful or hesitant? That could be a sign that you are putting conditions on your goals.
Let me give you an example of what I mean by putting conditions on your goals. Suppose you have a goal of becoming debt-free by the end of 2023. A condition-free way of stating this goal would be:
By the end of 2023, I will be debt-free and I am willing to do whatever it takes to get there.
However, a conditional way of stating this goal would be:
By the end of 2023, I will be debt-free (as long as it doesn’t interfere with eating out and my beach vacations).
Do you see the difference? The first statement is clear, confident, and committed. The second statement is vague, doubtful, and hesitant. It implies that you are not fully ready or serious about achieving your goal. It also limits your options and opportunities for reaching your goal.
And there is no judgment here. I encourage everyone to build abundant lives of joy and to live joyfully every day. But if you say your goal is to get out of debt, you have to be willing to jump over the fence when things get hard. Like when you are on track and your car breaks down. Do you say “Oh well, I guess it wasn’t meant to be this year” and give up? Or do you think “Just a minor setback and I can make up for it by doing x, y, and z”? This shows commitment and tells the universe that yes, this is still what I want.
If you are listening to this and realizing that yes, you are guilty of putting conditions on your goals, don’t worry. There are some things you can do to change that. The first thing I invite you to consider is adopting a different mindset.
What to Do Instead: Adopt an Abundance Mindset and Use Positive Affirmations
Instead of a fear or scarcity mindset, which is the belief that there is not enough for everyone and that you have to compete or settle for what you can get, you can practice having an abundance mindset, which is the belief that there is more than enough for everyone and that you can create or attract what you want.
An abundance mindset is empowering and positive and will attract more abundance and joy into your life.
Which leads to another great tip around using positive statements to hold positive energy while you’re manifesting your desires. Instead of saying “I can’t” or “I don’t”, say “I can” and my favorite “I choose”. For example:
- I choose to lose weight and eat healthy and exercise regularly.
- I desire a loving partner and I choose to be open to online dating and going out more.
- I desire more money or more abundance and I choose to work harder and learn new skills.
Positive affirmations really do help, especially when they are aligned with your intentions and goals. They will also help you attract more positive energy and opportunities into your life.
So how can you adopt these mindsets and manifest your goals without putting conditions on them?
What to Do Instead: Follow These Steps to Manifest Your Goals
Now that you know what to avoid and what to do instead, let me share with you some practical steps that will help you manifest your goals without putting conditions on them.
Step 1: Be clear about what you want. It’s important that you’re clear about what your goals are in order to manifest them. Articulating them clearly can help crystallize them. Write them down and be as specific as possible. For example, instead of writing “I want to travel”, write “I want to visit Paris in spring and see the Eiffel Tower”.
Step 2: Remove any conditions or limitations. Once you have written down your goals, check if there are any conditions or limitations attached to them. For example, if you wrote “I want to visit Paris in spring but I don’t have enough money or time”, remove the “but” part and rewrite it as “I want to visit Paris in spring”. Do this for all your goals until they are free of any conditions or limitations. Look for the word “but” and replace it with “and” or a period.
Step 3: Feel as if it’s already yours. The key to manifesting is feeling as if what you want is already yours. By feeling the emotions of having your goals, you will align yourself with the vibration of what you want and attract it into your life. So imagine yourself having your goals and feel all the positive feelings associated with them. Use all your senses and emotions to make it as vivid as possible. For example, imagine yourself standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, feeling the breeze on your face, hearing the sounds of the city, smelling the croissants from a nearby bakery, tasting the wine from a local cafe, and feeling happy and fulfilled.
Step 4: Take inspired action. While feeling is important, it’s not enough by itself. You also need to take inspired action, which is action that comes from a place of joy, passion, and intuition. Inspired action is not forced or stressful; it is natural and effortless. It is action that feels right and aligned with your purpose. So listen to your inner guidance and take action on your goals every day, even if it’s just a small step. For example, you could research the best time to visit Paris, book your flight and hotel, plan your itinerary, pack your bags, and enjoy your trip.
By following these steps consistently, you will be able to manifest your goals without putting conditions on them. You will be able to create the life you want and deserve.
